The Social Ministry Team usually organizes Blessing of the Backpacks each August to provide school supplies and backpacks for students who are returning to the classroom. Due to virtual learning during Covid 19 this is not possible this year. Instead we would like people to be aware of resources that exist to put computers and tablets into the hands of students who might not already have them. Students who attend school at Chico Unified School District schools are encouraged check out this website.
Computers for Schools - Computers for Schools is an organization that refurbishes used computers and tablets and makes them available at a very low price to students from low-income families. If a child has Medi-Cal, EBT, or participates in free and reduced school lunch they are eligible for the program. If you are interested call (530) 895-4175 extension #100 to order a computer. Be sure to let them know you need one that will allow a child to participate in a virtual classroom. They speak Spanish and Hmong as well as English. If anyone has any old computers they would like to donate you can bring them by their office at 411 Otterson Drive, Suite 100 M-F 8am-4pm. They are right next to the UPS Warehouse. Just ring their doorbell and someone will come take your donation.
Blessings to students, teachers and parents across the globe who are adjusting to virtual education.
