Did you know the phones in our office can legally drink? That's how old they are! Think about that for a second though: that means the same phones have been functioning for decades. Gaynor Telesystems is a locally owned business, and they've been servicing our phones wonderfully all these years. Having a small, locally-owned business service our church has been such a positive experience, and they'll be sticking with us as we change phones this April...after Easter!
We are transitiong from a 'normal' phone (the kinds of landlines you'd see in the 90s and 00s in most offices) to a cloud system that grants us the following perks:
- Staff extensions so that you can call us directly on work lines.
- The ability for us to text you from a work number.
- Your ability to call us even during power outages.
- The staff's ability to link our cell phones to our work line so that if we're out of the office, we're still reachable on our work numbers.
- Caller ID so that we can answer, "Hey Bill!" for a more personal and warm welcome.
The phones themselves will still be landlines, so they'll be right here in the office. And Miss Dani is getting a handset that can be taken to childcare spaces in case of emergencies.
Here is everything you need to know about the actual transition and how it will affect your ability to call into the office at the time of install:
- Monday, April 8th - Installation: Gaynor will be here physically at church installing the new phones and equipment. If you are able, please plan to take care of office-related business by the Friday before, or on Tuesday the 9th. The office will still be open, but the staff may be limited in their capacity to handle walk-in visits.
- Tuesday, April 9th-Wednesday, April 10th - Business as usual: The old phones will still be hooked up during this time while Gaynor runs tests to make sure everything looks solid. The staff is available as is usual.
- Thursday, April 11th - Switchover to new system: At about 10AM on April 11th, the line itself will switch, and when you call us, you'll be calling our new phones! If there are any issues at all, we will post publicly about it and let you all know how to best reach us.
When we find our what our extension numbers are, we'll spread the word. In the meantime, please plan ahead with us. Let us know if you have any questions. Sincerely, the FLC staff.
