Interim Director of Family Life

As most of you know, Dani Vogel, the Director of Family Life, has resigned to pursue new opportunities. Her last day was May 2nd. On April 28th, we sent her off with our thanks, blessings and best wishes. Since Pastor Ben will be on sabbatical during the summer months, the council will start the recruitment conversation and process, but wait until he returns to interview and fill the position.

The good news is that many members of the congregation have volunteered to work together to keep the Faith Lutheran educational program going. Almost 40 people were fingerprinted on April 28th to be able to work with minor children. The enthusiasm of the Sunday School parents led to a productive conversation on May 5th. Teachers, musicians, childcare providers, parents and grandparents expressed a desire to build a strong program to help our children grow in faith over the coming years. They especially want to involve people who do not have young children. 

A survey will be distributed at the May 12 service. You will be asked to return the survey that day, (in exchange for some sweets.) The survey will help us fill the necessary positions and processes to keep the momentum going that Dani started.

Until the permanent position is filled, Dr. Cynthia Kampf has volunteered to provide organizational leadership. She will serve as Sunday School Superintendent and Director of Youth and Adult Education. Her grandfather, born in 1895, was a Sunday School Superintendent and Cindy was a Youth Director and Sunday School Teacher in her younger years. Her father, the Rev. Fred Lee was a Lutheran minister until his death in 2015. 

Cindy earned her B.A. and M.A. at California Lutheran University. Her doctoral degree in Educational Leadership was completed at USC. She worked in California schools for 32 years as a teacher (Jr. High and Elementary), Jr. High Vice-Principal, Elementary Principal, Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent, and finished her career in Chico Unified as Director of Educational Services.

Since her retirement in 2008, Cindy has worked as an educational consultant in the United States and Western Australia training K-12 teachers in strategies so all kids can learn. Her four daughters have also pursued careers in education. She has been a member of Faith Lutheran since 1992. 

She looks forward to working with all members to meet the educational needs of children. The survey will help us involve many of you immediately. Thank you for returning it and considering how you can help.
