When someone we care about is hurting, we often search for the right words to bring them comfort. But as Jesus prepares for his own death, what he wants from his disciples and friends is not words of reassurance, or advice on how to avoid being crucified. What Jesus asks is that his disciples be with him, that they stay awake to his pain, and surround him with their presence. This week may you pay attention to the moments when you want to offer the right words or provide answers for other people's problems. Remember that often your presence and willingness to acknowledge someone's pain is the greatest gift that you can give.
