Faith Lutheran Church is grateful to host Safe Space Winter Shelter from Sunday, January 26th (after worship) to Sunday, February 8th. This low barrier shelter takes place in the Fellowship Hall each year. Safe Space staff show up at around 6pm (give or take; we'll keep you posted on the exact time this year) to set up cots, blankets, and meals. We host a few dozen guests who receive a hot meal and a warm place to sleep during the coldest weeks of the year. Several other churches host the shelter as well, and we rotate locations at times that make sense for our programming and worship schedules.
Our awesome neighbors at the Chico Friends Meeting (Quakers) have already signed up to serve dinners from February 2nd to 8th. We extend this invitation to our congregation as well. Dinners are served on teams, and if you would like to put together a team or join one, please sign up soon! Right now there are only three dinners available: 1/28, 1/30 and 2/1.
Team Leaders put together a team, plan the meal for 60-70 people, do the shopping, prepare and serve the meal, and clean up afterwards. Serving and cleanup is usually over by 8pm. There is up to $200 available to reimburse for the cost of the meal, possibly more depending on how many reimbursement requests we get.
If you have questions please ask Marge Troester by calling the office.
